NEW IMPORTANT REFERENCE BOOK
William B. Ginsberg: Sea Charts of Norway, 1585 - 1812
Sea Charts of Norway, 1585–1812 is the first book to gather, illustrate, and examine core sets of coastal charts of Norway prepared by the major cartographers and publishers during the indicated time period. In addition, its 13 interrelated chapters consider Norway-related charts and provide an overview of the historical development of marine cartography. Its subject matter complements that of the author’s previous two works dedicated to maps of Norway and Scandinavia: Maps and Mapping of Norway, 1602–1855 and Printed Maps of Scandinavia and the Arctic, 1482–1601.
With its 320 illustrations, including several of rare or unrecorded maps, solid underlying research, and high-quality production, Sea Charts of Norway combines visual appeal and intellectual rigor. Special features, such as full title information for more than 220 maps, a graphical comparison of coastal chart coverage, and a gazetteer of place names, enhance its value as a reference work for collectors, dealers, and specialists.
Sea Charts of Norway, 1585 – 1812 is printed in a limited number of 350 copies, price NOK 900,..
In addition there is available a small number of a deluxe edition signed by the author.
